Christmas soup

Almost every soup I make begins with this:
Which is chopped and sauteed:

But this is Christmas, so there has to be some of this:

Chopped and added to the pan: 
Some stock is added, and later some milk and cream, to make a real comforting meal that has become a family tradition in this house:

Ah, lovely mixture! I start with onions as well as the carrots, leeks and celery. No turkey here this year, so it will be just vegetables with herbs (coriander this time). Best wishes for a Happy New Year!
