running along the canal

an opportunity to run with the marathon queen - not to be turned down

and as she ran a good half yesterday at Reading, there's a chance we might run together!

so after scraping ice from the car I drove down to b-z's place and we made for the canal, garmins set for a 90 minute plod - part of the TrailPlus taper

it was a wonderful morning, blue sky, sunshine, but not too hot and an off road run along the towpath

the plan was a 5 minute warm up walk followed bu runnign to 45 minutes and then back

its a good job we planned to walk the first part - it was seriously uphill to the canal!

and then a downhill plod, past a few locks, where the only noticeable gradients occur, we chatted, about running and runners we know, I guess most of the people who might read this got a mention!

after 45 minutes we turned, a shame really, we could both have gone on, and it was such a beautiful morning but at this stage I would like to have faith in the schedule!

so back we went to a drink of water, a cup of tea, a shower and pub lunch

what more could you ask for!

a great day - thanks, marathon queen!

oh, numbers:

Mile Pace AHR
1 14:21 118 5 min walk then run
2 13:15 137
3 13:42 135
4 13:47 134 turn around in this mile
5 13:17 136
6 14:05 133
0.56 16:23 118 walking cool down
6.56 13:13 131 1:31:39

Sounds like a lovely run for you both.
So nice to have someone to chat to whilst running sometimes.

aaaahhhhh, canal running. My favourite. Should be nice and flat. I certainly think for long runs running with company is far better than running alone.
